Introduction to the Chakras

During my Yin Yoga Teacher Training, we learned which chakras were affected in every single Yin pose that we learned. And this fascinated me. In Vinyasa, there are some teachers who like to theme a class around a specific chakra but it's not required and none of my regular teachers mention the chakras in class. But here in Yin, it was presented as a vital component of our teaching. I first started learning about the chakras many years ago in another area I was studying so I brushed up on my old knowledge and got reacquainted with our chakra friends.

Chakra literally translates to "wheel" or "disk", but basically, the chakras are the energy centers of the body. Each chakra contains a bundle of nerves and major organs, as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. When a chakra is blocked, it can lead to illness in our body so it's important to keep the energy in each of these centers flowing. Here are some graphics I created to explain each chakra in more depth.
